API Certification Training

API 1169

Pipeline Construction Inspector

The API 1169 Pipeline Construction Inspector Certification exam tests the applicant’s knowledge in relevant codes and standards necessary to perform inspection activities during construction of new onshore pipelines. The API 1169 exam is 3 hours long. There are 115 questions, of which only 100 are scored. The remaining 15 are pretest, not scored questions.

API TES

Tank Entry Supervisor

The primary references for the API TES Tank Entry Supervisor certification exam are ANSI/API Standard 2015, and its companion ANSI/API RP 2016, which provides guidance for developing and safely implementing the plans given in 2015. The API TES exam is 3.25 hours long, and there are 120 questions, all multiple-choice and closed-book. Paper and reference materials are not allowed into the examinations.

API 653

Aboveground Tank Inspector

As outlined in Annex D of the API 653 Standard, the qualification requirements for API 653 applicants are based on the combination of education and experience related to aboveground storage tanks. The API 653 exam day is 7.5 hours long, and includes a short tutorial session, 2.75 hours for the closed-book portion, a 45-minute lunch break, and 3.75 hours for the open-book section.
